Each summer, the  administration of the Aleutian region runs an ethno-ecological camp called Camp Aglakh for youth aged 12 to 17 on the Commander Islands.  During this inspiring camp students typically travel over 120km on foot, learning about the wildlife and history of Bering Island en route.  Natalia Formina was a camp leader from 2010-2016, and led the mini-camp in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandamic. Natalia shares this powerpoint presentation with us.  These images really capture the beauty of the Commander Islands, and reflect the unique and rich experience that camp provides.

Thank you Natalia.

This beautiful dance is performed by students from the Commander Islands in Russia. You can feel and see the movements and nesting behaviors of the birds.  Enjoy!

About the Seabird Youth Network

Pribilof Islands

The Pribilof Islands are a remote group of volcanic islands in the Bering Sea, about 200 miles north of Unalaska, and about 500 miles southeast from the Russian coast.

Meet the Team

The team consists of strong partnership between the Pribilof School District, the Aleut Community of St. Paul Island, the City of St. Paul, Tanadgusix Corporation, the St. George Traditional Council, St. George Island Institute, the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, and the wider scientific community.

Seabird Camps

Seabird camps are held on the Pribilof Islands during the summer. The camps are designed to provide hands-on scientific experience and new skills, encourage critical thinking, increasing understanding about local resources… and be fun!
