The day was windy, but sunny. Bianca got up early to join us for a morning least auklet capture session. We were treated to great views of sea lions feeding near the beach, and there were lots and lots of birds at the colony. The birds kept walking over our nooses and not getting caught… so we decided it was time to swap out the noose-carpets for different ones.

Take Two. With a catching team of seven kids, two adults, and three new noose-carpets we successfully caught five birds in the afternoon. Thomas and Cordell did a great job watching the noose-carpets for caught birds, and we’re slowly getting the feather collection protocol down. The birds all left the colony around 2:30pm, and we spent some time on the beach for some more play in the sand and water before heading back to town.

Cordell met us in the evening for some rock-pooling. Lots of sea-urchins and sea-stars, and a watching harbor seal and crested auklet.

A full and happy day.
