Today was filled to the last moment with a variety of activities. We began the afternoon with a visit from the Unangam Tuunu language team. We played a variety of games incorporating Unangam Tuunu words and phrases for students to learn and practice.
After the Unangam Tuunu session, we headed back to the E-shop for a lesson on identifying organisms using a dichotomous key. For this we used Jelly Belly jellybeans. Each student received a baggie of jellybeans with several of the same colors, but different shades, spots or no spots, opaque or translucent. They then had to follow the choices on the key to decide which flavor jellybean they were about to try. It was quite suspenseful, and most students were pretty accurate and brave when they tried an unknown flavor.
An ice cream snack break followed and then we headed out to Reef. Half our group revisited the cliff we observed on Monday and the other half trekked down to the seal blind. We all had our sketch paper with us and made some sketches that we will scan & share with the students in the Commander Islands.
Time flew by today! It is hard to believe we have only 1 Seabird Camp activity left. Meet out at South West point tomorrow (Saturday 7/24/21) at 3 pm for a family hike. Parents/ Grandparents/Aunties/ Yayas will supervise their own children as they show off their knowledge of bird species and how to be safe while observing birds on the cliffs. Stay as long as you like, go as far as you like!
