It’s been a busy last few days on St. George. We’ve put some long hours in down at the red-legged kittiwake cliffs looking for banded and geolocator birds, and we’ve entered these data.
We’ve enjoyed time on the beach; playing in the sand, swimming, and roasting hot-dogs.
Last night, Thomas and Maurice gave a community presentation about their experience as interns. About 20 people showed up. Mark Merculief introduced the program, and Thomas and Maurice gave a great explanation about the different projects they’ve been working on. Maurice even demonstrated how to set a rat-trap!
Everyone enjoyed watching Bianca dress up as a tufted puffin, while the twins and Tristen shared some puffin facts with the audience. It was a great evening.
Today has been the last day. Ann went over the intern evaluations with Thomas and Maurice. We’re so impressed about how hard they have both worked these two weeks; they have been on time every day, and put in a lot of effort. Thank you both.
We ended the day with a walk to Staraya beach. Everyone made their own small fire (only using a lighter), and enjoyed hot chocolate and snacks. A peaceful end to a wonderful two weeks on St. George Island
