Students on St. Paul Island have just received wonderful replies to their letters they wrote to friends on the Commander Islands.
Here are a few excerpts to share, plus a beautiful drawing of dog that was included in one of the letters:
“I am playing flute and dreaming to play guitar. I prefer classic music and rap music. What music do you prefer? My goal for this year is to finish reading “Pandemonizm”. We learn Russian and English languages at our school. What languages are you learning at school?”
“Internet is working very slow on our Island too. I very much like that we have clean air on our Island. What climate do you have on your Island?”
“I have dog who’s name is Norton. He is аn Alaskan Malamute, this breed came from Alaska. If you visit our Island you can visit museum, reserve and also I love walking on the ocean beach. We have few shops and one hospital. Weather here is different, but good weather does not happen often. Especially bad usually in winter, summer usually not very warm but some days are ideal and we take sunbaths then.”
“Because of coronavirus we were moved to distant education and did not attend school, but recently we went back to school. I very much like to draw with markers and I have 160 of different colors”.
“In summer time my favorite place on the Commander islands is near the Saldatkyi stream. I walk there in a good weather. I can stay there and lay in hills and watch how clouds run changing shape and listen to the ocean. Commander Islands is incredible place. There are very few cars here and they do not pollute air. Commander Islands is my little homeland.”
“There are about 700 people in my village. All the houses here are double-floors with 12-24 apartments each. We do have Internet but it is very slow.”
“My favorite food is mashed potato with cutlet. What is your favorite food? All the food delivered to the Island by vessels once in 3 months. My favorite day is my Birthday. My friends come to my home at my birthday. My mother prepares a party lunch and we eat. How do you usually spend you Birthday?”
“I like to do jigsaws, drink tea, play games on my phone and spend time with my friends and classmates. This year we had very strong winter with lots of snow”.
“Internet is very bad on the Commander Islands. That is why we do not sleep at night, because internet is faster at night and we trying to use it.”
“I love walking, listening to music. My favorite music group is ICEPEAK. My favourite drink is coffee. I have a pet, it is cat.”
“My goals are fly to the USA and I would like to have dog at home. I would very much love to meet with you.”
“When I read you letter I understood that you are a very kind person.”
“I would like you to come here and we would show you everything here.”
“I am going to pass my final exams at school this year and I would like to go to medical school to become stomatologist. What else you like except the “tiderg”? The history of our island also good as history of your island. There are 2 persons left who speak Aleut language. We have very beautiful nature on the island, people come here to look at the nature and then they do not want to leave. What plans you have for this year?”
“I decided to draw you a dog. I hope you will like it as much as I do.”
