A stormy day!  After continuing learning about how much we depend on the oceans for climate regulation, transport, and food, Jillian and Chipper worked on brightly colored paintings of different seabird species that will be included on the Seabird Report Card Poster.  Emma continued this theme, working on a beautiful black-legged kittiwake.

The afternoon was spent in the greenhouse, a perfect place for the wet afternoon.  We dissected a bean and used a magnifying glass to find the baby root and leaves growing inside.  After revisiting the life-cycle of a plant, we weeded the greenhouse, watered beds and got ready for planting.  Happy team work, and we’d soon planted newly dug rows with a salad mix, radishes and kale.  It still feels fairly warm in the greenhouse, so hopefully they will grow at least big enough for microgreens. Maurice joined us after working on a beautiful painting of a common murre.

Following on from yesterday’s food chain talks and our quest for producers, we picked fresh lettuce in the greenhouse and had a salad party to end the day!  Yum.
