This morning I flew from Anchorage to Unalaska, and then switched onto a smaller plane to St. George Island.  I was the only one on this second flight, and it was humbling to fly low over the Bering Sea in the winter.   You never know if you’ll actually be able to land on St. George, and it feels miraculous when weather aligns and you can actually get there in one day.  Today was one of those miracles, and it was a beautiful day to arrive.  Dramatic spring sunlight with constantly shifting clouds and shadows. The sunshine looks inviting, but the wind is still strong and bitingly cold and the foxes look big and warm in their thick winter coats.

It was good to start to reconnect with the kids at school, and we watched a great video that kids on the Commander Islands had made for us.  Jillian and Chipper got creative working on a video reply.  We decided we needed warmer clothes for outdoor footage, and discussed plans for activities in the week ahead.

Here are some photos of the village in the beautiful light.
