Seabird Camp Bonus Post!
The science room is empty and clean, supplies are packed in their totes in Garco, and the seabird helmets are back on their shelves in the library. Seabird camp is over, but we wanted to do one more post to share some of the other fun things we did during the week.

We hosted a science showcase featuring Bruce Lyon and Elena Scott who are studying grey-crowned rosy finch breeding behavior. Bruce gave a talk on Tuesday night that had stunning, images and video, captivating descriptions of the drama they’ve witnessed, and audience participation. On Wednesday Bruce and Elena led an evening field trip for all ages, taking community members out to their field site where they caught a bird, and witnessed some of the drama for themselves. Everyone had a great time in spite of some light rain.
Kendra hosted two bonus activities, a preschool program on Tuesday morning and a felting craft on Thursday evening. A huge thank you to Lora Haller who designed the cute puffin ornament we made!
And seabird camp provided some support for the Leadership-hosted day camp at Lake Hill. Despite some rain and light winds there was a good turn-out and we finally had a chance to put up and use our giant camp tipi.

We rounded out our time with a couple trail camera deployments to test their use for attendance monitoring at the East Landing and Zapadni least auklet colonies (images included a couple fox photo-bombs), some beach combing, cliff edge hikes, a summer Solstice ocean dip and generally enjoying St. Paul summer. A full and fun week!
